Robert,

Yes I tried it and it doesn't work. Regarding your friend's suggestion, 
perhaps it might work at times, but it looks quite a hassle to perform each 
time you want to listen to a link. I have only one site from which I would 
really like to listen in on which uses streaming Windows Media, and 
invariably it will quit half way through the stream and then Windows tells 
me the program is not responding and to  End Program. I find Windows Media 
player to be not only poor quality in some cases streaming, although that 
might be the host server or streaming origin, but it just isn't reliable. 
Thanks for your suggestion. I will keep it in case I get desperate
