It's really kind of variable. On my system here I've got a 52x cdrw/dvd
combo and Winamp takes a killer long time to rip a cd. But if I use any
other ripping program it only takes about 5 to 10 minutes depending how
long the cd is and what bitrate I'm using.
So, as they say your mileage may varry.
I have my settings set to unlimited and my CDRW drive is a 24X so I assume it is ripping at that speed. I have no problems.

First of all using Winamp Pro, I know when burning audio, it's best to burn at a lower speed for a better burn, but when it comes to ripping, I would think that would be different. What is anyone's experience of the ripping speed that would be error free? thank you
