I do understand reasons why it was held on the day of to meet the needs and
wants of the neighbors in the past but I believe the families on the hill
today have different needs and wants. I don't know when the last Halloween
party was as my family never received word since we lived on the hill but
again we never received one trick-or-treater come to either of our houses.
Unfortunately, more than half of the families with young children on the
hill are currently not members of WECA and have no say in what date the
party will be held on but I do fear the turn out will not be as great if
held on the night of. To make the event worth it we do need these families
to attend and they are also the families we are wanting to join WECA.
I am fine with the majority vote just wanted to shared my concerns

WECA Party because the kids liked to go trick or treating on the day of,
and felt left out if they had to wait until a different day, AND, they had

thought that if the WECA party was not on the day of, some parents felt,
because the kids wanted it, they had to take the kids out on the day of
then get them ready for the WECA party later.
In addition, because the WECA party was on the day of, all of us neighbors
knew we did not have to prep with treats on the day of, because all of the
neighborhood kids were at the WECA party where we took out treats. Trick
or treaters never came around ringing door bells - they were all at the
WECA party.
So, the WECA party on the day of served several purposes: for the
kids-have them in a safe place for games and treats; for the parents- knew
the kids were safe and did not have to troll the neighborhood with them or
alone; for the neighbors without kids - donated treats for the WECA party
and did not have to man the door for t & ters.

an alternative to trick-or-treating door to door on the hill years
ago. And since typically the trick-or-treaters go out on the last day

Hi Board.
Would you please let me know if you agree with the following two
proposed events. At the very minimum I propose that we must have
insurance on the building prior to hosting any events. It would be
absolutely horrible if someone was injured in any way, and if that
person needed to take legal action to cover medical and
pain/suffering. Without insurance in that horrible scenario, the
association would lose its assets (i.e. the building).
Meet the Candidates Night
I spoke with Mrs. Scott about the event Bill Wall proposed to us
during the Board meeting. She answered a bunch of my questions. I
think this event will be very doable by us. It mostly will come down
to providing a venue for the event, not too much in organizing is
necessary since the committeemen for each party would take care of
putting the invitation out to each candidate. They would organize with
us when the list of participants is known,. Each candidate would get a
few minutes (based upon how many participants) to speak, and then
there would be a set number of minutes for questions, then on to the
next candidate, and so on. After the last candidate, we would conclude
the event.
Mrs. Scott already has a couple documents which will get us off and
moving in the correct direction. One is the agenda document, and one
is a flyer.

Halloween Party
If we are able to host a candidates night, then why couldn’t we host a
Halloween party, right? Ideally we will have an Activities Committee
after the general membership meeting (on 9/11/2017), to run with this.

Proposed date: Tuesday 10/31/2017, 6PM to 8PM
2 Hour event
I need not mention, but will anyway, the positive reasons for hosting
these two events. The community will see that we are indeed active,
involved, and growing.
