Updateon the new fire station:
Wewill be asking the townspeople to vote to take over the building atthe May
7th town meeting.
Upto this point the apparatus bay, which houses the six fire trucks iscomplete.
Itwas built with energy efficiency in mind. It is extremely wellinsulated, it
has all LED lighting and has a new energy efficientheating system.
Thereason we are turning over the building to the town before theaddition is
complete is the association is almost out of funds. Westarted out with about
$115,00.00 and we are down to about$10,000.00. By turning the building over to
the town we will be ableto use the $44,000.00 donation from Vermont Yankee to
the firedepartment for our time spent training for the Vermont Yankee
nuclearplant. At that it time it was turned over to the emergency
managementdirector. It was decided way back then that the money would be
putaside to go toward the new fire station. We are only able to acquirethese
funds if the building is turned over to the town. This amountof money will help
us to complete the addition this year.
Themembers of the department will still build this addition. They willbe paid
their normal salary, out of the $44,000.00, although we haveall stated that we
will be donating the pay back into the buildingfund. The association will still
be raising money to help with thecost. When we were ready to start building we
looked into a grant tobuild. The lowest price we were quoted was 5 million
dollars for thesame building the town is getting donated to them.
Wehad hoped to raise enough money to give you a completed buildingbefore
turning it over, unfortunately, it would take about another 6or 7 years to
raise $44,000.00. The addition will allow us to have acommunication room, full
bathroom with shower, training room, kitchenarea and chief’s office.
Pleasekeep in mind, when you vote, that there is not another town that
hasworked so hard to give their town a building of this magnitude. I amvery
proud of our department and I sincerely hope you are as well. Ifyou have
