Subject: Regina Curtis’ legacy in the Valley will live long after she leaves
GCC
Reply-To: rifanburgn@xxxxxxxxxxxx
Dear Friends of GCC,
I hope this note finds you well in these extraordinary times. Recently,
Regina Curtis announced her retirement to you and to the College community. I
have only known Regina a short while, but I know that most of you have known
her for far longer. She may retire from GCC, but her legacy in this Valley
will live long after she leaves us.
There are many ways to measure the impact of one’s career. I would say that
making higher education possible for the most deserving and the most
vulnerable in our community is the greatest and most transformative impact of
all. After 15 years of working at GCC, 40 years since the College first
touched her life, nearly $27M in grant funding and $11M in philanthropic
raised for GCC, Regina’s impact on the Valley can be characterized as
indelible. Beyond GCC, Regina is one who believes strongly in community and
that is seen in her service on the Greenfield Savings Bank board, her
investment in Common Capital’s Community First Fund and in the Quabbin
Harvest Food Coop—both local organizations created to build community and
support the local economy—to just name a few.
These are strange times to be living in and times when an educated citizenry
is more critical to our democracy and to our economy than ever. Through the
course of her career, Regina, of all people, has learned how important
education and democracy are. It is in this spirit of access, education,
citizenship, and democracy that I ask you to join me in congratulating Regina
on her achievements and most importantly on her impact.
I thank each of you for your partnership in helping members of our community
realize not only the dreams with which they crossed our College’s threshold,
but also dreams that they never thought possible. I hope that you will also
join all of us in celebrating Regina properly in the spring and summer when
we hope to have some semblance of normalcy.
My very best,
Yves
