Hi Mary,
Although I appreciate and respect your desire for caution on this
matter, the situation really is quite dire. As Claire pointed out,
Moore's Pond already contains an alarming concentration of dihydrogen
monoxide. It can be extremely hazardous to human life when inhaled,
and fatal if ingested in large enough quantities. This isn't just
academic - thousands of people are killed each year due to accidental
inhalation of the stuff in this country alone.
The real question is what we as a community can do to stop the spread
and contain the situation. This is a chemical that exists quite
literally in our own backyards.
