Hi Aedan and Paul,
Thanks for your help and advice. I tried these out but no luck. So I contacted my mobile provider Vodafone technical support and after a number of phonecalls and the help of my son I got it sorted out. The problem was that my e-mail address was not compatible with the iphone for sending messages. I could receive messages ok. I changed my e-mail address to a google one and all is now working.

In smtp put in:
Mail.vodafone.ie

Thanks for your reply. When you say to set the pop to my existing e-mail
provider what do I type in this box? I put in www.eircom.net but no luck.

Hi Nial,
You set the pop to your existing email provider.
Set smtp to mail.vodafone.ie
That should do it.

Just wondering if anyone on the list can help me. I recently bought an
iphone 4 and I am trying to set it up to send and receive e-mails. I have
it
set up to receive e-mails but I cannot send them. My network provider is
vodafone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
