Hi Susan, Below are a couple of articles which you can read that maybe will prove useful to you and which were posted to our list here some time back. One deals with copying files from a CD to your hard drive and then you can transfer them to something like a pen drive etc for portability. The otherarticle which was submitted by Joan Ann Brossnan and is excellent in that it tells you how to use windows media player 10 to cpy and produce an audio CD.(Article 1)I suggest the first thing you need to do is download a little program called"CDex1.07" fromthe web. I have pasted in the direct download below and by direct download I mean that when you paste it into your internet browser and hit the enter key the file should begin to download shortly afterwards. It may ask you if you wish to "save or run it". Tab to the run button and press the enter key andafter it has finished downloading itself to your computer it will begin toinstall, asking you a few simple questions which you will just mostly answer"next" too. http://www.whitestick.co.uk/progs/cdex170beta2.exeNow after this program has been installed you need to place in the CD driveof your computer the audio CD you wish to copy tracks from. Tip: In order to stop the CD auto loading after you insert it into the CD drive, just press and hold down the "shift key" for about 20 seconds after you close the door of the CD drive. Next, follow the below instructions tocopy tracks from your CD to the computer. Step 1. Go into the programs menuand arrow down to CDex 1.7 then right arrow and press the enter key on theicon called "CDEX. Step 2. Wait for a few moments and CDex will open up andwill have a list of all the tracks which are contained on your CD. Step 3. You can select all of the tracks by pressing keys "control + letter A", oryou can select some of the tracks using the "control key held down and downarrowing through the list, hitting the spacebar on any track you wish to have copied. Note: It is important to hold down the "control key" while you are doingthis process. Step 4. After you have selected all or some of the tracks andyou want to begin the copy process, just press "F9" and CDex will begincopying the tracks into a folder on your computer. The location of the fileswill be in the following folder; My documents/my music/MP3/No artist/No title. Here you will find the songs you copied which will now be in "MP3 format". This makes them easier to carry around on say a pen drive or MP3 player. Hope this helps. Link to the CDex program is: http://gosoftware.org/cdex/cdex_170b2_enu.exeNote: When you go to the link above you may hear a little bleep sound. Thisis internet explorer warning you that you have to tell it if you reallywant to download this program. To do this with the file or any file you aredownloading from the web where you get this warning sound 1. Press the keystrokes: "left alt + N". 2. a menu will pop up and the first choice in it is to "download file". 3. Press enter on this coice and shortly after the file should begin to download. (Article 2, submitted by "Joan Ann Brossnan") Using windows Media Player 10 to copy music. name it something like, files to burn. This folder can be created in My Documents, or wherever you want to have it. 2. Now, select a group of files that you want to make into an audio cd, andcopy them to the folder you just created.3. Once copying is complete, close the folder, and highlight it, then pressalt + enter to open the properties of that folder. 4. When the properties dialogue opens, route Jaws to Pc, and then start reading upward one line at a time. You should come to the point where the size of the folder is given. 5. If the size of the folder is less than 650mb, you may add files up tothat number. If the size is larger than 650mb, you will need to remove somefiles until the size is 650mb, or a little less.Note: While it is possible to burn a slightly larger compilation than 650mb,I wouldn't recommend doing this with Media Player, since it is not as advanced as other burning software. 6. Once you have achieved the proper size, it is time to start the burn process. Close the properties of the folder, and then open the folder. 7. Press control + A, to select all files in the folder, and copy them to the clipboard. 8. Now, go to My Computer, and select your cd burner, and press enter to open it. 9. When the burner opens, Jaws will say, list view, zero items. Paste your files here, and wait for the copying to finish.10. When copying has finished, place a CDR disk in the drive, and close thedrawer. If a dialogue pops up, and prompts you to choose an action, tab to the cancel button and press the spacebar. 11. Focus should be returned to the cd drive, if not, then alt tab, until you return to the cd drive. 12. Now, open the file menu, and arrow to, write these files to cd, and press enter. This will open the cd writing wizard.13. Here you have an oppourtunity to name your cd, so do so. After you havetyped a name for the cd, tab once. 14. You will land on a checkbox, which should read, close the wizard after the files have been written, if this is not checked press the spacebar to check it. 15. Tab to the next button, and press the spacebar. In this dialogue, youwill be presented with 2 radio buttons, and the first one should be checked.Make an audio cd for standard cd players. You can also choose to make a data CD. 16. Tab to the next button, and press the spacebar, here's where the fun begins. 17. Windows Media Player should now be open, and you will be asked if you wish to search for files. Tab to the no button, and press the spacebar. 18. Tab until you come to the, burn button, and press the spacebar. 19. Tab again until you come to the, start burn button, and press the spacebar. This will start the burn process. 20. When burning is complete, the cd will be ejected, then just close the drawer.21. Return to the cd drive in, my computer, and press enter to open it, then you will see the files there that were burned to the cd. Open the file menu, and select delete temporary files, and press enter. You will get a confirmation dialogue, so just press the spacebar on the, yes, button. You are done. Note: If you want to burn another cd with the same files, repeat steps 12 thru 19 outlined above. Hope this helps Joan Ann. -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users.
