I believe an NFC tag is essentially a little chip. If you use these, you just
need to bring your phone close to the tag and it’ll work. The camera does not
come into play.
It is the same technology that is used in contactless card payments and Apple
Pay etc.
In the case of this app, it also allows them to offer buttons which you sew to
your clothes as an alternative to the stickers.
Barcodes, as you probably know, are printed images, made up of a series of
black and white stripes.
To read these, you need to get the barcode in the frame of the camera for it to
scan.
So I guess the NFC stickers may be a little easier to use, but have more
advanced technology in them, making them more expensive than the barcodes.

I found that app, plus another one called SpeechLabel.
It looks like they’re made by the same people, and that SpeechLabel is the
new app, and SpeechSticker is the old version.
In SpeechLabel, you can order stickers in the form of barcodes or NFC tags.
So seems pretty good.
They also have NFC tags on buttons which you can sew to your clothes.
I’ve ordered some sticker labels, so will see how well they work.
