Hi paul,
makes sense to me, why the per paragraph setting works - as advertised.
bear in mind that these settings may not be as exact as you or I might
think, K1000's evaluation settings being done 'autonomously', as it were.
If you're having any other problems (vocabulary tables and such), let me
know, because I solved these for another K1000 user who's trying to learn
German - the format of the book in question. (There is a Kurzweil 1000
mailing list which may be joined in a form at their Web site at

Hi Flor.

Changing the setting to reading paragraphs as you suggested has made a huge
improvement but I can't figure out why. I was pretty sure I had included
the language settings when installing but then re-installed anyway just to
see if it made any further difference which it didn't. I got a message at
the end of the installation process informing me that some spooler file had
failed to install. However, it seems to make no apparent difference to the
operation so I'm happy enough.

Once again, thanks for your help and expertise.

Paul

Hi Paul,

What language setting are you using in the Settings - alt+t - then choose
the reading dialogue? If you don't know it, press the tab key a few times
and you will hear, "the language being read will be evaluated once per
page/per paragraph". the once per paragraph setting is what you will want,
I think, and you pick it by highlighting it when you arrow to it, and then
apply/ok your change. What should happen then is that (if you installed all

languages for Eloquence: If you didn't, it would be a good idea if you
did) - then the Spanish should be read and pronounced as correctly as you're

going to get via the computer; and of course the accented letters likewise.
Ideally, for OCR purposes, you would have also installed European languages
for finereader and ScanSoft engines to recognise when scanning. (The
Eloquence all languages option will come up during the guided installation -

one of the non-default installation options.)

Hi all.

Is there a way to get Kurzweil to recognise the accentuated letters used in
different languages? I'm trying to scan Spanish stuff and I'm being slowly
driven crazy trying to figure the meaning of some words where Kurzweil tries
to read the acute and other accents and comes up with words that don't
exist. It's hard enough trying to learn without also having to guess at
what the scanned word might be.

I'm using Kurzweil Version 10

Paul
