Second suggestion. If fret 8 has had a knock downward or extreme wear, it could
have gone lower than the surrounding frets. That ne’s harder to solve. It might
need replacing or you might need to stone the surrounding frets to make them
lower.

I haven’t changed strings or done anything else, and it hasn’t been subject to
extreme temperatures. It’s a very loud and obvious bus, completely deadening
the note on that fret.
could my playing action caused this to happen? Could I possibly be applying too
much pressure to say barre chords or powerchords?

A heavier gauge might reduce the problem. Are you having any tuning issues at
all? Unfortunately, if your guitar has been in extreme heat or cold
temperatures it could affect the woods or even bowe the neck slightly. This
could have the effect your encountering. I’m sure though, it’ll be something
