I never never ever use earbuds. I hate them. I use the speaker on my eye
devices or I use a Bluetooth earpiece if I'm out and don't want everyone to
hear what's happening on my iPhone. I also have audiophile quality headphones
which I use for music, together with a small amplifier. That amplifier will
connect either to the USB port of an android device or the lightning port on an
Apple device, and it has a headphone jack for my headphones. That is overkill
for most people course. I also have a Bluetooth speaker which can be used if we
want it louder volume to come from the phone, such as if my husband and I want
to listen together to the same audiobook. In short, earbuds never enter into
the equation for me.

this is the very same solution on the newest kindle 8th generation
ereader which is voiced but requires a bluetooth connection for audio.
this decision is exactly what keeps me from jumping to this new unit
even though the ereader is a major advance. like i said, i like simple
and audio jacks are simple. just wonderin'.
