I appreciate your help but I am totally puzzled. First, I have an icloud and
charter account already on the Kindle. It is only the gmail account that won't
be added and I can't delete it since it hasn't yet been added. My present gmail
account is one I have had for years and it is on my older kindle, my iPhone, my
computer etc. it seems you are telling to create a whole new gmail account -
maybe I am just not understanding! I have no desire to create a new gmail
account. If I am totally offbase as to what you are suggesting, I am really
sorry but you will need to explain again. Again, I really do appreciate your
efforts to help with this.

but, when you set-up a new account you will first be prompted to key
in your email address. that is the full address, such as me@xxxxxxxxx.
you then tap a link and then are prompted for your password. tap next
and it will be set-up. i got a google services error but that doesn't
mean anything with the email that i can tell.
after setting up your account, you will hear "open navigation drawer"
and that is where you can adjust all of your email settings. you will
also find multiple email boxes if you set-up more than one.
go back or navigate up out of there and you are in the email window
with different operations. just tap on different buttons to see what
you have. when you tap on an email, you can delete that mail by
swiping back up and tapping delete. more options will give you the
option of archive, unread among others.
