Thought you all might like to know how it’s going: Accessible Electronics
provided me with really great basic instructions, and I have been reading on
the list, as was tempted to buy a kendle fire8 for a while. I unboxed it
Saturday, and managed to register the device, get on Wi-Fi,, get Alexa going,
and put Spotify on the device the first night. I had thought that spotify would
work with Alexa, but I am getting contradictory answers, leaning towards the
negative, that Alexa won’t interact with it on the fire, even though music will
actually play on it if you do everything yourself.
I’ve been studying the Voice of you tutorial every day, having the most
difficulty with the jog wheel, as I said before. I played around with the silk
browser, and, when I wanted to email something to myself, ended up setting up
my Gmail account, since I have the least on there, and so sent the recipe to my
regular email. I Purchased YouTube from the App Store, and signed in there, and
played some videos. it got interesting setting up my contact information under
the me profile, but I think I did it, even though the address field’s weren’t
clear, as on an Apple device.
Today, I enabled Sirius XM on Alexa, which got interesting, because it said
Alexa Needed to be updated in order for the skilled to work properly. Even
though Alexa of course was on the home screen, there was also an Alexa in the
App Store, which said get! I don’t understand that, because I would think, if
it was all the same, it would just say, update., So, not wanting to mess
anything up, I called Amazon: the rep was very patient, since I explained about
being totally blind a new with this. We ended up going into settings after we
established a screen sharing connection, and we discovered that I was one
system update behind, so we did the update, which led to some anxious moments,
because the device didn’t restart. Finally it did, after which, we discovered
that 14 components didn’t update, so we did that, during which time I had to
hit the update button several times, because they didn’t update all at once.
The button would dim out, and then become undimmed, which was the only
indication that you had to hit it again, since there were no progress
indicator’s. So, was great when Siri is XM got to working consistently.
That’s how it’s been going so far. I also have been able to get Alexa to get
stations for me from TuneIn Radio, have seen how my Amazon book library is, and
played some songs from my Amazon music.
