You've given me a few ideas for working with Kita. She is okay with moderate
traffic, but often startles and moves a foot or so away when a large truck
or other noisy vehicle goes by us.  

I worked with Zoomer on both left and right, just because there were times
that it was handier to have her on my right. Teaching Kita that too.  I
usually have my dogs on my left, because that is where we started when I was
first told how to train, and it did work okay for us.
