Hi.
Until recently the iPad mini was my device of choice for a portable device to
use with my Focus 40 Blue Braille Display.
How things quickly change along with the mind for now I would much prefer to
use something like a Lenovo 500E Chromebook to do the job and why? Because it
just works and that’s a good enough reason surely <smile>.
With the Chromebook 2 things are obvious when you start using it with the
Display, firstly it works, no obvious and annoying bugs. I’m not going to say
this setup is perfect but certainly good enough for me to read whatever I wish
to read so we’re off to a jolly good start.
Second all the navigation commands I’ve used thus far work so getting from
point A to point B from point C doesn’t seem to be a problem.
I’ve not tried input from the Braille keyboard as yet but that’s something I
don’t use on a Braille Display out of habit anyway, personal preference of
course.
So before outlaying more money on an iPhone or iPad I urge you to consider the
tasks you will be using your device for and go take a look at a Chromebook at a
fraction of the price.
The Lenovo 500E also runs Android so you can install all your favourite Apps
for easy navigation.
For some reason Android Apps on my Lenovo 500E seem to be easier to navigate
and use with a keyboard than they are say on my Samsung Galaxy Ultra S20 phone.
