Hi,
I've had recent experiences with both apps.
Currently, I find Uber more accessible in Talkback. To set up a ride, swipe or
explore by touch until you find "where to", there's additional helper text
there to clue you that this is the destination entry control. Double tap on
"where to", your on screen keyboard should open up and you can type in the
address or name of your destination. After you're done typing, hitting the
"search" button on the keyboard should bring up a list of potential addresses.
Just a note, once you've used the app a couple of times, your recent trips may
populate a list prior to searching. Once you've chosen a destination, you
need to choose the type of transport (Uber Pool, Uber Ex, Uber XL, etc.). The
transport choice is a multi-page control, use two finger swipes to switch
between transport, and a single tap to select. Depending on the type of
transport, you may have to confirm the number of passengers and pick up more
than once. I've sometimes had issues clicking on these confirm buttons, but
after struggling a bit and using two fingers and/or being patient with one
finger and double tapping on the button, the ride seems to go through. From
this point, your ride is sent into the Uber system, and a driver is found for
you. Explore the screen to find elements like the estimated time of arrival
(ETA) and a way to contact the driver. Scheduling a ride is similar with the
addition of having to provide the date and time.
Lyft is a little more complicated. As you say, I've needed sighted assistance
to set it up. When setting up a ride, you'll find the workflow is much
different than Uber. First, you'll have to choose your mode of transport. The
ETA of the closest driver is announced. This info isn't meaningful until you
set up a ride. Explore to verify that your pick up address is correct. And
select "Confirm pickup". On the next screen, select "add destination" or "set
destination". I'm not sure if there's a difference. Enter your destination.
Like Uber, a suggested location will appear as you type. Once you choose a
destination, you will be moved to a confirmation screen. Choose "request
Lyft". I met some Lyft engineers at a MeetUp a few weeks ago. They were aware
at some of the issues in Android, and were looking to make their Android app
more accessible. Hopefully, these changes will be here soon.
Hope this helps,
== J and you're pretty much done.

Subject: [vi-android] Lyft and Uber with Talkback
Hello,
To users of Talkback, and Uber or Lyft, I'm trying to get either app going for
independent transportation.
I note there's a lot of iPhone instructions nothing for Talkback which does not
read things the same way. I am not an iPhone user so they do me no good.
For Uber I have successfully set it up including the linking to my paypal
account. I am however unable to either schedule a future ride, or arrange a
ride for now.
For Lyft I was unable to get it set up at all.
Any input appreciated.
Thanks.
Dave.
