Hi Richmond- The Harris Sparrow is still coming to feed under a flowering quince (fire in the bush) at Mae Houff's just north of Weyer's Cave. The sparrow was seen Monday, Tuesday morning, we missed it Tuesday evening. I got a call at work on Wed. that the Harris sparrow was back, so we went back yesterday evening (4/17) and got one look at it feeding with white-throated and white-crowned sparrows about 7 PM. The bird was very distinctive with black in the head and throat area, and pink-orange bill. Photos have been taken. Mae Houff was the most gracious hostess and she already has copies of some of the pictures. Weyer's Cave is exit 235 off I-81 and only five miles from Bridgewater! We had high hopes of the sparrow flying off NORTH of the river so we could claim it in both Augusta and Rockingham Co., but the sparrow stayed with its routine of flying into the other shrubby area on the south side of the property. I guess Rockingham will just have to wait for its own record bird. Cheers- Robyn Puffenbarger and Bill Benish wcbenish@xxxxxxx Bridgewater, VA You are subscribed to VA-Richmond-General.
