Gotta love urban birding in Richmond! We have cliff swallows, peregrines, the occasional raven, migratory purple martin roosts, turkeys roosting in Church Hill, owls nesting above busy roads...Life is good! _____ From: va-bird-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:va-bird-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Sandy Spencer Sent: Sunday, May 04, 2008 9:13 PM To: Va-Birds Subject: [Va-bird] Cliff swallows at Belle Isle footbridge, Richmond, May 4 Janet Frye you stole my thunder, as too was planning to make this announcement on the listserve. :>) I was there today at the Belle Isle foot bridge and marveled at the dozen or so jugs in each to two locations attached to the overpass above the footbridge. Many of these had an occupant peeking out. Other spring delights in the area were Baltimore oriole and great-crested flycatcher. Drove by there today on the way back from Mechanicsville and there are fresh jugs with birds entering and exiting. 3 kids sleeping, so I'll go back later to enjoy them. Are they back this year? Tried to go today to look, but there is a concert or something down there and the incredibly rude police officer directing traffic reminded me why I don't go there often.
