Once when coming to work at Ft Lee some years ago, I found a mockingbird standing on a bush next to me. I whistled at it, something like da de du over and over again. It answered me every time and pretty soon it started going da de du as well. I continued this some time until a woman came up to me and asked "Are you talking to it?" I was so close to the bird that I could see its throat vibrate when it chirped.
