We have seen an Osprey at Dutch Gap as late as December. It was sitting in a tree off the main trail, next to one of the inner ponds. I didn't see the bird myself as I was checking out the conditions at Powhatan Lakes after all the recent rain. The lower lake level has been drawn down for ongoing construction of an elevated walkway across the lake. However, there was much evidence of recent flooding all along the road. The gravel was covered with mud and there are huge potholes. Birding was very quiet, no waterfowl or wading birds on either lake. Extreme late date for Osprey in the Piedmont is November 24 per the Gold Book Wendy Ealding Powhatan County
