In spite of Riverside Drive being blocked for one of the races of the National Duathlon Festival, five birders had an active morning at the main section of James River Park. Spring migrants were present in good numbers. The group found thirteen warbler species: Blue Winged, Nashville, Northern Parula, Yellow, Black-throated Blue, Yellow-rumped, Black-throated Green, Prairie, Black-and-white, Prothonotary, Ovenbird, Yellow-throated, and Common Yellowthroat. There were good looks at Prairie and Black-throated Green. There is a Prothonotary nest in a river birch just opposite the picnic shelter. The Nashville was heard in the meadow. There were two Rose-breasted Grosbeaks there as well. Two Indigo Buntings, two Catbirds, a Red-breasted Merganser, and a Great Crested Flycatcher rounded out the visitors. Complete list is below.

Good birding,

Lewis
