We usually have a Hermit Thrush in our yard each winter but it's usually a bit elusive and not always easily found. This year's bird seems acclimated to yards and more familiar around people! It hops up on low shrubs and looks in the window, or appears on the picnic table not more that 15-feet from where I sit and we "check each other out"! Can't figure if it's the same bird as former years who is just more familiar with the setup here or one raised around people and so not shy or just part of the normal variation in Hermit Thrush behavior. Any way you look at it, we're pleased to see it so often. We have a Red-breasted Nuthatch regularly at the feeders but the Pine Siskins who visited the thistle feeder at the beginning of the month didn't stay around. And uncharacteristically we have fair numbers of juncos but few White-throated Sparrows so far this season. We'll see what the below freezing temperatures bring our way, Caroline Coe Chesterfield CountyYou are subscribed to VA-Richmond-General.
