Hello birders,
This seems incredibly early. But this morning while checking bluebird boxes I
believe I saw a White-throated Sparrow. Rock Hill District Park, on Old Lee
Road in Chantilly. I did not have a camera.
Sparrow with strong black-and-white head markings, white supraloral stripe,
yellow spot in stripe in front of the eye, white chin/throat patch.
This was on the W side of the extremely overgrown ex-pond, under the big Willow
tree just NW of the parking lot. The bird flew up from the field W of the
pond, and perched atop brush about 2-3 feet above the ground, under the tree.
It flew E towards the tree and I lost it.
Probably not related, but coincidentally, there are White-crowned Sparrows at
this same park all winter long, every winter.
Other birds at the park today included 3 singing warblers (Yellowthroat,
Prairie, and Chat) and Indigo Bunting.
