Yesterday I spent a few hours birding at Craney. Bill Keith was leaving as I
arrived at 11:30 AM; he told me he had seen White-rumped Sandpipers and
phalaropes that were too distant for him to ID. Luckily the phalaropes flew
closer while I was there; they turned out to be six Wilson's Phalaropes. I
only counted three White-rumped Sandpipers. No other unexpected shorebirds were
seen. Among the terns I saw one Gull-billed and a small tern-like bird that I
haven't identified. I have a few photos of it. The photos aren't the best
quality but do indicate the bird's size as a larger Forster's Tern is beside
it. Let me know off-line if you are interested in looking at the photos to help
me ID the bird.
There is water all along the west side of the north impoundment at Craney now
and also some on the northwest corner of the middle impoundment. I spent most
of my time at the southwest corner of the north impoundment as that is where
most of the shorebirds were concentrated. A few ducks have arrived and were
along the north side of the north impoundment. Species list follows.
