Hello again VA birders--
Today I went off to explore Wakefield Park from 12:00 to 2:00 and hiked the
powerline cut, then took a side path that crosses a nice creek. This was my
first visit ever to this wonderful habitat. It was a very colorful afternoon
with tons of goldfinches and house finches, and a few blue grosbeaks. There
is yet another side path I took along the bank of the creek where the tops of
the trees were filled with noisy finches--I'm guessing from the commotion
that there were over a hundred birds concentrated in one small area. I also
watched two gnatcatchers that I think must have been bringing food to a
little bowl-shaped nest. I only got two warblers that I was quick enough to
ID. Has anyone seen other warblers this weekend in this park?
