So sorry!!! Let's try this again.....
Hello VA birders--
I'd never been to the park at the Sallie Mae building, on Sunset Hills Road
in Reston so I grabbed an hour between 12:30 and 1:30 to finally satisfy my
curiosity about the place, plus no one seems to have posted anything about
the birds there. I was surprised at how huge an area is back there. The park
is very well planted (albeit with plenty of invasive species) and well taken
care of There are three ponds, some nice pathways, a stone gazebo, and some
footbridges over the creek. However, there is also lots and lots of lawn
that looks very well fertilized, which probably means plenty of chemicals
running off into the ponds. I explored the edges of the ponds and stands of
trees and shrubs. Plenty of redwinged blackbirds, robins, and grackles all
over the place, plus one Baltimore Oriole and one Rusty Blackbird. Although
there were no waders or warblers as there are at Sunrise Valley Park just two
miles away, it was a very nice, quiet place to stroll about. It would be a
great place for a picnic or a romp with the kids. Perhaps early morning or
very late afternoon would be a better time for bird variety. Here's what I
found.
