Nothing too exciting to post, but I couldn't resist passing along my
sightings since they made me smile:
Yesterday I was metroing in to the Capitals hockey game on the Yellow Line
from Braddock Road. This metro line crosses over the Potomac River, and
after seeing the posts here that the Ospreys were back in town, I looked
for them on the railroad bridge (I really had missed them all winter, I
always look for them!). There they were - TWO of them sitting on the nest
on the railroad bridge.
As I was admiring the pair, a peregrine falcon came out of nowhere and
flew RIGHT next to the metro window (about 15-20 feet away) and flew with
the metro for the entire crossing!!! Not that I've looked hard for them,
but it was the first I'd ever seen in the DC area. :)
Then, this morning, my treat was my first ever fox sparrow, right in my
own back yard! I saw it where there were normally white throated sparrows
and nearly squeeled in happiness for the fact that I was seeing a brand
new bird. I got to snap a few average photos of it for proof to myself
that I had seen it.
I suppose this is what we all live for - seeing new birds when we least
expect it!
