Hope you are all having a good summer. I am assisting David Spears with the
VA-Bird List. The new list has been running for about 2 months and we thought
it a good time to send out a reminder on the how-tos for the list. Keep this
email for reference if you like or visit

1. Make sure posts to VA-Bird should now be addressed to va-bird@xxxxxxxxxxxxx.
There are a few posts being sent to the old freelist listserve. This is still
"functional" so that you may search those archives. You cannot change your
subscription options through the old freelist.
2. Requests for "vacation", "digest", and "subscribe"/unsubscribe go to this
email address: va-bird-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx. Place command in the subject line.
The "vacation" command is handled by the following;
set delivery on
set delivery off
Turn delivery on or off. This does not unsubscribe you, but instead tells
Mailman not to deliver messages to you for now. This is useful if you're going
on vacation. Be sure to use `set delivery on' when you return from vacation!
To receive digest;
set digest plain
set digest mime
set digest off
When the `digest' option is turned off, you will receive postings
immediately when they are posted. Use `set digest plain' if instead
you want to receive postings bundled into a plain text digest
(i.e. RFC 1153 digest). Use `set digest mime' if instead you want to receive
postings bundled together into a MIME digest.
To subscribe/unsubscribe;
About the descriptions - words in "<>"s signify REQUIRED items and
words in "[]" denote OPTIONAL items. Do not include the "<>"s or
"[]"s when you use the commands.
subscribe [password] [digest|nodigest] [address=<address>]
Subscribe to this mailing list. Your password must be given to
unsubscribe or change your options, but if you omit the password, one will be
generated for you. You may be periodically reminded of your password.
unsubscribe [password] [address=<address>]
Unsubscribe from the mailing list. If given, your password must
match your current password. If omitted, a confirmation email will
sent to the unsubscribing address. If you wish to unsubscribe an
address other than the address you sent this request from, you may
specify `address=<address>' (no brackets around the email address,
and no quotes!)

3. It's very easy to get your password sent to you. From the website
http://mailman.listserve.com/listmanager/listinfo/va-bird
scroll down to the bottom of the page and hit "Unsubscribe or Edit Options",
then scroll down on the next page to the "Password Reminder" section and hit
the "Remind" button. It will send an email containing your password.
OR, you can just send a message to va-bird-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with
"password" as the subject and the server will reply with your password.
Send an email to the request address with "Help" as the Subject (without
quotes) and you will receive an email with all listserv instructions. "Set
Help" as the Subject will send additional instructions.

Thanks for your posts and patience. One last reminder, keep posts about
Virginia birds, include county/city for sightings, and sign off with name and
