I conducted a USGS BBS survey from Ino through
Exol, Dragonville and Mascot in lower King and
Queen County on Friday June 8 (50 stops, .5 mile
apart, 3 minutes at each stop) There seemed to
be nothing unusual about the results (which is
nice to be able to say). There were lots of
chats, parulas, ovenbirds, hooded, pine, prairie,
and black-and-white warblers; more summer than
scarlet tangers; lots of indigo buntings amd blue
grosbeaks, a few prothonotary, worm-eating,
yellow-throated, louisiana waterthrush, and
redstarts; and respectable numbers of bobwhites
and towhees. The small great blue heron rookery
at one of the stops appeared abandoned. If I get
a chance to send the totals in the next week I
will, but I have lots to do, lots to do.
