We came upon at least 12 American Tree Sparrows today on Long Marsh Rd north
of Berryville. They were in a huge mixed flock of winter birds:
Blue Jay
C. Chickadee
E. Bluebird
AMERICAN TREE SP - 12 or more
Song SP
White-throated SP
White-crowned SP - many on various roads
Junco - many dozens, all over
Cardinal
The huge flock on Long Marsh was moving around a lot, so it was hard to get
a good count of any species, let alone a specific number for the Tree
Sparrows. Also, it was snowing pretty hard at the time.
Aside from Clarke Co, we had 100 plus Horned Larks in Frederick Co, so it
made for a pretty exciting day, considering the fact that we don't get Tree
Sparrows every year.
