I just thought I'd mention that I'm finding that Catbirds eat quite a
variety of foods, if offered. They originally came to my feeders for the
suet. I put out orange halves and grapes for the orioles that occasionally
come by my yard, but they get eaten immediately by the catbirds. If
everything else is empty, they will also eat shelled sunflower, and even try
peanuts. I recently put out leftover scrambled eggs, which they DEVOURED,
while fighting off every other bird nearby. They also like ripe cantaloupe.
I once read they like milk (how ironic).has anyone tried this?
At the feeder, the birds are bringing their young.the first red-bellied
woodpecker juveniles showed up this week. Most of the other regular
visitors have brought their young as well. I am now only waiting on the
red-headed woodpecker juveniles. Last year they showed up around the end of
June. The adults come by every day.
