VA-Birders,
Yesterdays bird walk for kids was pretty well rained out. However, one
person did join me and my Dad for a nice walk. We tallied 33 species; the
highlights included singing WOODTHRUSH, a SPOTTED SANDPIPER feeding along
the edge of the main pond, a female COMMON YELLOWTHROAT at the lower pond,
and a flock of 30 CEDARWAXWINGS feeding on the ample cherries and other
fruits. I am surprised to find the waxwings flocking this time of year. Are
they migrating birds? I would have thought them to be pairing off by now.
