Hello, birders.
The best birding today was early in the morning, when
I found many migrants on the entrance road to the
park, before the contact station. LINCOLN'S, Chipping
and Savannah Sparrows, Cape May, Palm and unidentified
warblers, unidentified small flycatchers, Rose-br.
Grosbeak and Sc. Tanager were among the migrants that
I observed here. A caravan of birders from the No.
Va. Bird Club passed by me, headed to the Bridal
Trail. I hope they found some neat stuff over there.
The Cape May (1 individual, maybe 2) sighting was only
the second time that I've ever had them in the park,
both times occured this month.
Red-headed Woodpeckers were common and conspicious in
the Walnut Grove, as always. Today I estimated that
there were 10 of them. I counted at least 24 Indigo
Buntings, mostly near the entrance road pond. Besides
the warblers noted above, I also had 2 Com.
Yellowthroat. A Pied-billed Grebe was a neat find on
the fishing pond.
