Yesterday at 5:20 p.m. there was one Short-eared owl at the place they've been
seen in previous years about three miles northeast of Zion Crossroads in Louisa
County. From Zion Crossroads (U.S. 15 at Interstate 64) proceed north on Rt.
15 for 2.4 miles and turn right (east) on Rt. 617; go one mile until there are
hayfields on both sides of the road. You'll see a small drainage ditch on the
right (south) leading away from the road, along a wooden fence toward a pond in
the middle distance. The owl was seen in the vicinity of this ditch; it also
perched briefly on the fence.
