VA Birders,
I stopped by the lake at Logan's Roadhouse in Manassas this afternoon
(4:35pm) and the Red-necked Grebe was still there and still sleeping.
It put it's head up once but other than that, was pretty dull. This was
offset by the fantastic views of 5 male Hooded Mergansers displaying for
2 females. If you've never seen this behavior, I suggest going out and
watching. It is incredible and the birds are stunningly gorgeous. For
you photographers out there, this site offers excellent opportunities to
photograph Hooded Mergansers as you are only about 40 yards from the
birds and looking down on them. Thanks to Laura for once again finding
a great bird!
