I stopped at James River Park Wetlands about 10:00 - 11:00 this morning. Many
hundreds of Chimney Swifts, Tree and Barn Swallows, plus a few Rough-wings were
flying over the bankful and angry-looking James R. It was impossible to get a
handle on how many, they were over the river up and downstream as far as I
could see. Quite a sight!
I then heard (and took the trouble to see, since it was the first of the year)
a Red-eyed Vireo. Also abundant this morning were Yellow-rumped Warblers. I
have been wondering about them as counts of this species were way down on
CBC's, but they were everywhere this morning in their usual abundance, and
singing. Also seen or heard were Yellowthroat, Ovenbird, Palm, and
Yellow-throated Warblers
