Checking out the pond at Greenfield the last two
days has been productive for finding shorebirds.
Yesterday Seth Williamson and I found Lesser and
Greater Yellowlegs, Spotted and Solitary Sandpiper,
and a solitary Bonapartes gull. Today the Bonapartes
was replaced by a Great Egret, and the other shorebirds
were augumented by a single Dunlin. Numbers of Blue-
winged Teal remain the only waterfowl, and a number
of Snipe and up to 6 to 7 Great Blues were noted by
Linda Christianson this morning.
As was noted by Ned Brinkley a few days ago, this is
the time to watch both Greenfield and the STP for
unusual migrants. As we are now compiling a bird check-
list for Greenfield I would appreciate hearing about your
sightings.
