We spent the weekend and Chincoteague and had several good sightings, the best
was the almost 50 Red Knots found on the beach at Tom’s Cove Sunday 6/10. We
noticed 2 with bands and one of those had a radio antenna attached.
Also found in Chincoteague were 2 Yellow crowned Night Herons on South Main
Street, 3 Piping Plovers on the refuge, up to 4 Black necked Stilts on the
Causeway 6/9 and 10, 3 Marbled Godwits at Tom’s Cove 6/10, a Gull billed Tern
on the refuge 6/9, a Prothonotary Warbler and Summer Tanager on the refuge 6/10.
A side trip to Saxis WMA found 1 male Northern Harrier, 2 Saltmarsh
Sharp-tailed Sparrows, many Clapper Rails and Seaside Sparrows. No Black Rails
were heard this time.
