According to my "in-house bat expert" (aka husband who works with wildlife),
you may have seen brown bats, which can appear reddish in color. In winter
months, they will fly during the day if it's warm, like this weekend, eating
whatever bugs happen to still be around. If it's too cold, they go into
hibernation.
