Hello all
With the weather system that was passing thru on Saturday , I went out to
check on several ponds to see what was around .My first stop was Bells Lane
where nothing was going on & so I stopped by McCune's Pond where I had one
Forster's tern & another one at a private Lake near Stuarts Draft . At
Smith's pond in Swoope only produced 3 Great Blues & one Solitary Sandpiper
, but on Livick Rd in Swoope I had a male Northern Harrier , 18 Grasshopper
Sparrow ( most fledged young ) & 150 + Bobolink ( about 25% adult ) . I
would guess that it is an early migrant .to end the day of birding I went
over to Quillen's pond in the Lyndhurst area . This pond had filled up this
past spring & now the water is dropping down & leaving a nice mud flat for
migrating Shorebirds . Here I found a lone Semipalmated Plover among 15
Killdeer , two Spotted Sandpiper , 4 Solitary , 4 Least , & 4 Pectoral &
one each of a Great Blue & Great Egret . A nice way of ending a morning of
birding .
