Looks like Paula Sullivan and I were observing a HY Peregrine at Dyke Marsh,
Alexandria, on Wednesday morning - 11/20 - around 9;30 a.m. - Luckily, Paula
had her camera and was able to get enough good shots for Kurt Gaskill to give
us an ID...I got caught up in trying to read the silver band on its right
ankle and failed to get some critical field marks before it flew off (chasing
an adult Bald Eagle) - I saw the bird again later, and was able to see the
wing length that put it in with the falcons, but I also noticed another band
(green) on the left leg...without any codes, the banding hotline is unable to
help - so - here's some questions...with two bands, color-coded - are we able
to find out if this bird came from a hacking box? I would like to think that
the color coding would be reportable to someone in lieu of being able to read
(the teeny tiny) numbers from 100 yards away...also...since I read that some
of these birds are fitted w/ transmitters to track their movements, if anyone
out there had one of their "babies" tracked in the Alexandria, Va. area on
11/20, could you let us know...sure would be great to know where this bird
has been...it was present along the Potomac at least until noon on
Wednesday...thanks...Rich Rieger
