Birders,
Red-shouldered Hawks are nesting about 100 feet from the deck at our
house. Interesting to watch nest building, especially when they jump
on dead branches to break them and carry to the nest. One hawk,
presumedly the male, has been bringing food to the bird sitting on
the nest. Frogs from a small pond seems to be their primary food
source.
Other yard birds:
Purple Finch - One male showed up yesterday, about 99 less than last
year!
Barred Owl - Two calling during night.
Wood Duck - 2 males, 2 females on pond.
and Mallards, Pine Warblers, Brown Creepers, Golden-crowned Kinglets,
E. Bluebirds, et. al.
E. Flying Squirrels; 10 deer (want some?)
Butterflies: Mourning Cloak, Angle Wing (, or ?), Cabbage.
Happy birding,
George and Rosemarie Harris
