A small group of birders participated in the NVBC bird walk at Banshee Reeks on
Saturday, September 21 led by Joe Coleman and Linda Millington. Highlights
included a large flock of Eastern Meadowlarks, two Magnolia Warblers, a late
Eastern Kingbird, a Yellow-billed Cuckoo (two others heard), and lovely views
through the spotting scope of a female American Kestrel on the silo and
Red-headed Woodpeckers on the snags in the beaver pond. We were most amazed,
however, by the abundance of Monarch butterflies. They fluttered alongside and
ahead of us all morning along the trails. A complete list follows:
