This morning about 0715 I heard a Belted Kingfisher flying over the
center of Fairfax City. I couldn't find it at first but finally spied it
flying very high to SW. Finally it veered to the west. I can't be sure but
I suspect it was a migrant. The only definite migrant kingfishers I have
seen in the Greater Washington DC area were ones heading north in the spring
after bitterly cold winters when most of the local waterways were frozen.
I also saw my first Ring-billed Gull of the season in the nearby
Safeway parking lot.
