Howdy all,
Today we saw a drop in overall numbers. But it actually worked out good. We
had a nice group of senior citizens this morning and they were treated to a
good program involving both songbirds and raptors. We had a nice variety for
them
at the passerine station and as luck would have it, our hawk trappers caught
two hawks and Zach Smith brought them over and did a little program with them.
Even better the two hawks were a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK and a MERLIN.
As for songbird banding, it was a bit slow. We banded 26 birds. The most
unusual bird of the day was a very young MOURNING DOVE. Very cute!
VEERYS are still in good numbers.
Here are the totals for 9/13:
American Redstart 6
Black-throated Blue Warbler 3
Common Yellowthroat 2
Pine Warbler 1 third day in a row! Never get many
here.
Northern Waterthrush 2
Ovenbird 1
House Wren 2
Red-eyed Vireo 1
Veery 6
Brown Thrasher 1
Mourning Dove 1 maybe the only one for the season
TOTAL -------------------------------- 26
Hope we stay dry in the morning tomorrow and that we can catch a few!
Cheers,
