A large group of birders showed up for the Huntley Meadows Monday Morning
Birdwalk today, no doubt because of the memorial Day Holiday. The weather was
warm to hot, humid, calm and hazy. It would seem that summer has arrived. The
group of 25 birders tallied 50 species. Migration appears to be about over, as
both the warbler and shorebird count was rather low.

The Monday Morning birdwalk has been a weekly event at Huntley Meadows since
1985. It takes place every week, rain or shine, at 7 AM, is free of charge,
requires no reservation, and is open to all. Birders meet in the parking lot
at the Park's entrance at 3701 Lockheed Blvd, Alexandria, VA. For questions
call the Park during normal business hours at (703) 768-2525. The Friends of
Huntley Meadows would like to remind readers that yesterday (May 27) was the
100th anniversary of the birth of Rachel Carson. If you are looking for
something to read today, perhaps you might break out your old copy of 'Silent
Spring'.
