Hello birders,
Following up on the immature male Yellow-headed Blackbird that Beth
Oristian and I found Saturday morning at the entrance to Grandview in
Hampton. The bird showed some white in the wing but in many ways looked
very much like a female to me. The mixed flock of starlings and cowbirds
with which it was feeding were unsettled by a Merlin which eventually
pushed the flock father into the neighborhood where several others birders
managed to the refind the Yellow-headed Blackbird later in the day.
As for Grandview, we walked the entirety of the beach hoping for Snow
Buntings but could not find any. Towards the tip we did find IPSWICH
SPARROWs in good number, at least 6 individuals. Otherwise, not much stood
out. We did enjoy a decent shorebird showing.
