On Saturday, April 21, 2007 there will be an opportunity for birders to spend
the day scouting out potential Golden Eagle nest sites in Highland County,
Virginia. We will concentrate on the area near Lantz and Snowy Mountains where
adult Golden Eagles have been spotted regularly. If enough people are
available, we may also scope out the Devil's Backbone area from High Valley.
We will meet at the Post office park lot in Monterey at 10:00 am. Participants
should bring binoculars, spotting scopes, a good field guide, folding chair,
lunch, water and snacks and a willingness to spend the day in one area with
fellow birders with their eyes and binoculars to the ridges and sky! Please
come dressed for potentially chilly weather. Also, if you have a walkie-talkie,
that would be very useful. If you can participate, please call Patti Reum at
540-248-2700 or email bearmountain@xxxxxxxxxx.
