VA-Birders:
I birded the Washington Ditch today from the parking area to Lake Drummond in
hopes of finding a Swainson's warbler. I was probbaly about a week early for
the Swainson's This recent blast of cold weather likely put the brakes on
northward migration, but despite this morning's chilly temperatures, I was able
to find ten species of warblers:
yellow-rumped warbler - 91
black-throated green warbler - 1
yellow-throated warbler - 2
pine warbler - 2
western palm warbler - 2
black-and-white warbler - 1
prothonotary warbler - 2
ovenbird - 17
Louisiana waterthrush - 4
common yellowthroat - 9
Other highlights were a singing blue-headed vireo, my first white-eyed vireo
of the year, and a gobbling wild turkey.
Good birding.
